As Singapore’s national institute for teacher education, NIE has for over 70 years ensured the preparation of educators grounded in disciplinary knowledge, research, and professional practice. This research-led foundation enables teachers to respond effectively to evolving educational demands locally and globally.
Aligned with this mission, the Tamil Studies major offers a wide range of courses on Tamil language, culture, history, and society. Understanding the history of the Tamil language and literature equips you to guide, support, and facilitate learning in schools. Technology-enabled lessons, presentations, and research-writing experiences further enable in-depth content mastery.
The programme aims to develop you as a Tamil linguist who understands the nexus between theory and practice, while remaining attuned to the nuances and demands of Tamil education in Singapore and around the world.
NIE is ranked #3 in Asia and #8 globally for Education in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
