# Academic Support

​Some students with disabilities and/or Special Educational Needs (SEN) may experience challenges in accessing standard learning materials, taking academic assessments in the typical format, participating in classroom activities and more.

AEU works with relevant departments to provide appropriate academic support to facilitate equitable access to achieve their academic best.

Examples of learning assistance and support are:

- Academic assessment accommodations
- Learning support
- Assistive technology and/or devices

#### **Academic Assessment Accommodation**

Students with disabilities and/or SEN may be eligible for academic assessment accommodations. Examples of accommodations include additional time, separate rooms and access to laptops.

#### **Learning Support**

A range of support services are also available, including notetaking services, sign language interpretation, video transcription and conversion of text and diagrams to Braille/tactile format.

#### Advice on and/or Loan of Assistive Technology and/or Devices (AT)

AT is important to some students with disabilities and/or SEN as the devices and software can help students better access learning materials. AEU has a library of common AT available for student loan.

Where necessary, AEU may refer students to external agencies for professional assessments and prescriptions/recommendations of the appropriate AT.
