NTU School of Biological Sciences (SBS) explores new knowledge and discoveries in molecular biology that will have major impact on the life sciences, widely acknowledged as the next technological revolution after the Internet. Many governments, life sciences industries, universities and research organisations are building up their capabilities, research and infrastructure in this area.

This pillar explores how altered cellular mechanisms lead to diseases such as cancer, neurodegeneration, and infections. By linking developmental biology with disease models, it identifies therapeutic targets and designs next-generation treatments to advance precision medicine.

### Plant and Agrobiology

Focusing on plant and fungal biology, this pillar explores stress responses, photosynthesis, and resilience. Advanced genomics, genome editing, and AI tools help develop sustainable solutions for agriculture, forestry, and food security.

### Structural and Cell Biology

At the molecular level, this pillar uncovers how proteins and complexes assemble to drive cellular functions. Using cryo-EM, live-cell imaging, and structural analysis, it provides insights that fuel advances in biotechnology and therapeutics.
