## Auditory-Verbal Therapy
Course Synopsys
Auditory-verbal therapy is a recognised approach that has been shown to be successful in providing positive spoken language outcomes for children with hearing loss wearing hearing aids or cochlear implant. However, in Asia the number of professionals skilled in AVT is limited.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia through the HEARS centre offers the Professional Certificate in Auditory-Verbal Therapy to equip professionals involved in the management of children with hearing loss with knowledge and skills in AVT. This is the only program of its kind in Southeast Asia that is offered by a university. This program offers two AVT learning packages: The Clinical Package, which follows a structured group mentorship approach, and the Theoretical Package, designed for those who do not have or are yet to have their own clients.
Course Benefits
- The course will train participants to master the theoretical foundations and latest knowledge in Auditory-Verbal Therapy, advocate for the rights of individuals with hearing loss, and, for those enrolled in the clinical package, develop a high level of competency in delivering AVT.
- Participants will be mentored closely by trained and experienced instructors.
- The programme is conducted fully online using an interactive learning approach, with recorded lectures provided as reference materials.
Course Learning Outcome
- Application of AVT principles, techniques and strategies in the prevention, evaluation and management of individuals with hearing loss
- Identification of suitable counselling support for parents of children with hearing loss
- Understanding concepts of hearing technologies that assist children with hearing loss
Entry Requirement
- Posses a **Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Science/Audiology** or related field of health sciences. International candidates should have a minimum score of 6 for IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

4. Record 2 clinical sessions for each phase to be discussed with a mentor \*only for clinical package

Information about the program?
This year’s intake (2024) is open to Malaysians and Internationals who are undergoing training in the field of audiology, speech-language therapy, education for the deaf or other related fields.

🔰 Malaysian & International Candidates – Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Science/ Audiology or related field of health sciences, International candidates should have a minimum score of 6 for IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
🔰 The degree must be a professional degree that qualifies the candidate to work in their respective fields.
🔰 Candidates must have worked and managed pediatric patients in their clinical practice.

An exposure to diverse topics involving AVT principles, strategies & techniques for building listening and speaking skills of hearing impaired children.
