Sapienza is among the founders of the CIVIS European Alliance - A European Civic University, funded by the European Union and active since October 1, 2019.\ The following European universities are part of CIVIS, in addition to Sapienza:

\ CIVIS offers students, academic staff and technical-administrative staff a chance for exchanges and mobility in an integrated European university area. CIVIS also means transnational collaboration of civic universities, with a strong link with the social and geographical context. It involves about 400,000 students, promotes multilingualism and European cultural diversity.

CIVIS Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)
Section being updated
As part of the CIVIS alliance, a new activity has been launched that further enriches the training offer: the Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP). Each BIP combines a period of online teaching with a short period of physical mobility of 5 days at one of the partner Universities of the CIVIS Alliance. Each BIP is designed, organized and taught by professors from at least three of the CIVIS partner Universities.

Who can participate:
CIVIS BIPs are open to students and staff of all partner universities, although specific criteria and procedures apply to students from non-EU universities. Most BIPs are open to at least two different cycles of study (bachelor's and master's degrees, master's and doctoral degrees).
To be eligible, students of Sapienza:
- must be regularly enrolled in one of the bachelor's degree, master's degree, single cycle degree or PhD at Sapienza;
- must retain the status of student until the end of period of mobility abroad;
- must be up to date with the payments of the university fees;
- must have applied to a CIVIS BIP and must have been selected and officially appointed by the competent committee.
If you have questions about whether you can be admitted to BIPs, please visit the website of your University or the International Affairs Office. You can find a list of useful links and contacts for each university here. For some BIPs, preparation in certain topics is required, while others are open to all people interested in the topic. Details of the admission criteria are indicated for each course.
The CIVIS BIPs are academic modules recognized by the European Commission and by all CIVIS partner Universities and allow to obtain from 3 to 6 ECTS. The recognition of the ECTS depends on the methods provided by each CIVIS partner University.
In addition, participation in a CIVIS BIP will be recorded in the student's CIVIS Passport. Learn more about the CIVIS Passport.
How to participate:
Applications for BIPs are made through the CIVIS mobility portal, accessible through the CIVIS Courses Catalogue.
For each academic year, there will be specific application periods.
Applications will not be accepted outside of these periods. For each period, a selection of BIPs will be offered.

Access to funding - Requisites
Grantsare recognised exclusively for academic activities abroad limited to the continuous period of mobility planned by the short course. The Sapienza student:
- must be regularly enrolled in one of the bachelor's degree, master's degree, single cycle degree or PhD at Sapienza;
- must retain the status of student until the end of period of mobility abroad;
- must be up to date with the payments of the university fees;
- must have applied to a CIVIS BIP via the online platform and must have been selected and officially appointed by the competent committee.
Access to funding - Procedures.
Students:
- must email the International Office at civis_shortmobility.sapienza@uniroma1.it to accept or reject the mobility after participation in the course they have enrolled in has been confirmed:
- must sign a Grant Agreementwith Sapienza containing a self-declaration form regarding grant access procedures;
- must indicate in the Grant Agreement their bank/postal data, including their IBAN, in their own name, attaching a document from the bank or Post Office showing the data referring to the account;
- the grant agreement must be fully completed, signed and returned by email to civis_shortmobility.sapienza@uniroma1.it In the subject line: BIP – student's surname - title and period of the short course).
Payment Procedures
The student will receive:
- 80% of the total grant before the student's departure and, in any case, after the return of the grant agreement properly filled in, duly signed and including the bank/postal attachment showing the account/IBAN details;
- 20% of the total amount within 30 calendar days from the end of the short-term mobility period. It is mandatory to send copies of the boarding passes or travel tickets and certificate of attendance to Sapienza Erasmus Office at the following email address civis_shortmobility.sapienza@uniroma1.it with subject BIP – Student's surname -Certificate of Attendance to start the procedure for payment of the balance. The balance will be paid within 30 days of receiving the certificate of attendance.
Mobility Grant: Individual Support
- Students and academic staff will be funded from the total university budget allocated to Erasmus+ and earmarked for student and staff mobility;
- Each participant must obtain a mobility grant from their home institution. Individual mobility support is 70 € per day for students. Individual support for lecturers depends on the host country;
- Students are entitled to additional funding of 2 days (up to a maximum of 4 for green trips) beyond the physical duration of the BIP, which is intended to cover the costs for the day of arrival and departure to and from the host city. These days are called 'travel days' and are only financed if arrival and departure occur before and after the dates of the in-person activities. Trips made on the first or last day of the activities are not considered travel days;
For example, suppose the student participates in a course lasting 5 days + 2 travel days for a total of 7 days. In that case, the participant must multiply the daily allowance by the number of days: euro 70.00 x 7 days = euro 490.00. *
- Students with fewer opportunities (ISEE up to 15 thousand euros) receive an additional 100,00 euros to be added to the individual support of their Erasmus+ grant.
Mobility Grant: Travel
- Students with fewer opportunities: receive a contribution which includes travel expenses. The additional amount is fixed and is 275 euros calculated based on the mileage bands as per the Distance Calculator (distance between Sapienza and the host university). In the case of green travel involving sustainable means of transport (train, coach, bicycle), students are entitled to a contribution (TOP-UP Travel Green) of euro 320 (euro 275.00 for ordinary travel + euro 45.00 for green travel)
- Students who are not eligible for a travel grant can access additional funding if they opt for green travel in the amount of euro 50.
In both cases, students opting for green travel can receive up to 4 days of extension to individual support to cover the actual travel days.
The TOP-UP Travel Green amount will be acknowledged at the end of the mobility upon presentation of proof of expenses incurred proving the green travel and the time needed to reach the destination after verification by the Erasmus EU Mobility Unit.
PLEASE NOTE:
CIVIS BIP short-term mobility recipients must be regularly enrolled at Sapienza during the mobility period. If the CIVIS short-term mobility recipient is also benefiting from a grant under the Erasmus programme or another mobility programme (double degree and non-EU), they may carry out the CIVIS short-term mobility without the expected financial contribution (zero-grant).
After the mobility
Send boarding passesand/or other tickets and itinerary.
Hand- deliver the original Attendance Certificateprovided by BIP's Coordinator to room 203, second floor of Palazzina Tumminelli (CU007).
Civis and Erasmus+ Calls for Study
- EU Erasmus+ call 2023-24 for studies - From this year, a reserve of 10% of total grants will be allocated, as a priority, to the mobility of students applying for the above-mentioned universities.

An online webinar for students of the CIVIS Alliance Universities, an opportunity to discover exchange possibilities for a semester or a full year at a CIVIS Alliance university.
CIVIS partner coordinators will present information about their universities and provide key details on their exchange processes and timelines.

CIVIS Mobility: Characteristics and Objectives
- The CIVIS alliance is committed to implementing the principles of the Bologna Process in order to contribute to the construction of the European Education Area. The CIVIS alliance is to be understood as a space for teaching, research, cultural exchanges and innovative action by citizens in Europe, from the Baltic to the Mediterranean.
- Over time, it will activate a variety of study programmes shared among the 8 European campuses in order to build a true European Higher Education Area and contribute to the development of a strong and multilingual European knowledge society. Training will be based on research and innovative educational activities, which will provide - in addition to traditional Erasmus mobility - short, virtual and distance learning mobility. Students participating in the launch of CIVIS mobility will become part of a European community, which will benefit from enhanced services and new innovative educational pathways.
- Erasmus mobility within the universities in the Alliance is among the CIVIS objectives. Forasmuch as an increase in mobility between partner universities is expected, Sapienza reserves 10% of the total contributions, as a priority, to the mobility of students applying for CIVIS universities.
