Required documents for nonimmigrants to carry
Ohio State’s international students and scholars enter the United States with proper immigration documentation and maintain their lawful status by following all federal regulations tied to their specific visa types. To help demonstrate legal presence in the country, whether during routine travel, local verification or unexpected circumstances, international students and scholars must keep copies of required immigration documents easily accessible at all times (or be able to immediately access electronic copies securely). The information below outlines the key documents every international student and scholars are required to carry to ensure they can quickly and confidently confirm they are in the United States legally when needed.

Immigration, travel and ICE guidance
The Office of Legal Affairs and the Office of International Affairs receive frequent questions from international students, faculty and staff concerning travel abroad as well as potential interactions with representatives of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Ohio State’s campuses.
The Office of Legal Affairs has provided information about how ICE is permitted to operate on Ohio State’s campuses. Generally, all local, state and federal law enforcement agencies – including ICE – coordinate with the Ohio State University Police Division when they have enforcement needs on campus. Legal Affairs anticipates that the process will continue to be followed; however, if law enforcement come to a classroom space or office contact OSUPD at 614-292-2121 and the Office of Legal Affairs at 614 292-0611 for assistance.
