Pilot Project for Subsidizing Expensive Instrument User Fees
To advance the University’s key instrument analysis techniques, research efforts, and international influence, the Office of Research and Development (ORD) has established the NTU Consortia of Key Technologies in the five domains of mass spectrometry, molecular imaging, electron microscopy, semiconductor processing and integrative biomedical science. The consortia are supported by an expert system consisting of professors, professional technical staff, as well as cutting-edge core facilities, and by the University's existing expensive instruments, to provide both basic analysis service and solutions to advanced problems. Besides basic analyses, the consortia also feature consulting and follow-up research services for highly challenging and cutting-edge research topics. The experts will first determine the difficulty level of questions and designate appropriate facilities in the consortia to help conduct research analysis based on the identified needs so that both the use of instruments and analytical precision can be maximized. With the consortia supported by experts, NTU is expected to elevate its research quality in relevant domains.
To assist new faculty members to take advantage of the aforementioned facilities, the ORD has implemented the Pilot Project for Subsidizing Expensive Instrument User Fees. Professors can apply for basic testing analysis or propose collaborative research within the consortia. The pilot project is expected to encourage research efforts of professors and help enhance the University’s strengths in research and development.
Eligibility
NTU regular full-time faculty members are eligible for application if one of the following conditions is satisfied.
- Recipients of MOST research project grants whose total amount is NT$1,000,000 or less.
- Recipients of MOST research project grants for operating expenses (including personnel and consumable expenses) whose total amount is NT$ 500,000 or less.
- Those who have carried out MOST projects in the past three years but whose projects in the current year have not been approved by the MOST.
- First-year assistant professors who have not yet received the MOST research project grants.
Rules for the Use of Funding
- The subsidies can only be used to pay instrument user fees to the NTU Consortia of Key Technologies (mass spectrometry, molecular imaging, electron microscopy, and semiconductor processing consortia)
-
The subsidies can only be disbursed under specific accounting codes established by the University's Accounting Office (For the main campus: KKT2133, KKT5781, KKT5782, KKE4003; for the downtown campus: Z647-1)
-
The funds must be used up before December 10 of the year. Funds that are not spent before the cutoff date will be retrieved by the University to be reallocated.
