New Faculty Startup Resources:New Faculty Grant、Research Project Grant、Research Equipment Grants

The Grant is awarded to help new faculty members establish an independent research environment and encourage the undertaking of academic research.

I. New Faculty Grant

(I)  Funding for Facilities for General Administrative work (Sponsored  by Office of General Affairs) Utmost NT$150,000

  1. Funding for Facilities for General Administrative work: May be used to purchase general administrative facilities and equipment (such as bookshelves, desks, refrigerators, sofas, coffee tables, and coffee machines) . Allocated funding should be capped at NT$15,000.
  2. Funding for the Renovation of Teaching and Research Facilities:May be used for improving research space (such as classrooms, research rooms, and laboratories), as well as renovation and repairs.\

(II) Funding for Teaching and Research (Sponsored by Office of Research and Development (ORD)) Amount According to Department and Rank

  1. Funding must be allocated for each budgeted item: Research equipment (capital expenditure), general operating expenses (current spending), and personnel expenses.
  2. This funding may not be used for general administrative facilities or facility furnishings and renovation.
  3. If necessary, the funding may be allocated to 2 different calendar years, but the budget must be used within a year of application.

New faculty members within the first year of their employment may visit the myNTU Faculty and Staff Portal and select the icon "New Faculty Founding Research Grant application". Log in with the Computer and Information Networking Center account and complete the online application. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

II. Research Project Grants

(I) Eligibility:New Faculty members who have been granted a NSTC research project may apply within 3 months of NSTC grant approval

(II) Application Process:Application via electronic document system, with the original NSTC project proposal, NSTC funding approval papers, and Research Project Grant application form as attachment.

(III) Subsidy Amounts:

  1. 30% of the corresponding NSTC research project’s first year general operating expenses
  2. The entire budget shall not exceed the limit of NT$ 2 million (including the aforementioned NT$ 300 thousand). The period of funding is limited to a year.
  3. General operating expenses may include payment for temporary personnel (who are not students), consumables, goods, and other miscellaneous items. According to the Guidelines for the Usage of Higher Education Sprout Project Grant, funding for teaching and research shall not be used for the following: facilities of general administrative work (such as bookshelves, office desks and chairs, refrigerators, c, couches, coffee tables, coffee machines, etc), hosting expenses, NTU venue fees, utility bills, phone bills, NTU members attendance fees, author renumeration, review fees, work remuneration, moderator fees, consulting fees, regular NTU employee overtime pay, overseas traveling fees, and payment for untaken leaves; facilities that are teaching and research-oriented are not subject to the limits.
  4. Recipients shall not reapply. The NSTC research result report (digital file) shall be submitted to the Office of Research and Development within two months after the end of the funding period.

III. Research Equipment Grants

(I) Eligibility: New Faculty members who have received instrument subsidy from the department, graduate institute, or college may apply via electronic document system upon subsidy from the college/department within the first year of service. Faculty members hired after 112.8.1 are eligible for application within the first two years of service.

(II) Application Process:Application via electronic document system, stating the purchased research equipment (the quotation attached), upon confirmation of subsidy from college/department, sent to the ORD.

(III) Subsidy Amounts:

  1. Subsidy Amount: Utmost NTD$500,000.
  2. Funding is restricted to capital expenditure for research equipment.
  3. Changes in the research equipment should be applied independently via the electronic document system.
