Academic Research-Career Development Project (Sprout Research Projects)

The purpose of the project is to encourage NTU faculty members at or under the age of 45 to commit to their long-term research of originality in important fields and thus achieve full research potential, with the hope to help NTU lead research in cutting-edge and important fields.

Eligibility

  1. Currently a full-time NTU faculty member or research fellow on a regular payroll;
  2. Born on or after Jan. 1, 1980.
  3. Concurrently undertaking a NSTC Special Topic Research Project.
  4. For a full-time faculty member or research fellow already implementing this project, with the original execution schedule until Dec. 31, 2026, or Dec. 31, 2027, no additional applications may be submitted. If the original project is to be implemented until December 31, 2025, and you wish to submit a new project proposal, please attach the Research Project Report at the end of the new proposal application.
  5. A full-time NTU faculty member or research fellow on regular payroll may receive subsidies for at most one ORD-sanctioned research project, including the Excellence in Key Advantages Program (NTU Core Consortiums and Competitiveness Programs), Sprout Research Projects, and Jade Picking Project. In other words, those involved in more than one such project will receive subsidies for only one of them. Does not include the nature of matching grants, new faculty startup resources and seed projects for interdisciplinary research.

Subsidy Period and Amount

  1. Duration of project planning and funding: Jan. 1, 2026, to Dec. 31, 2028, subject to the conclusions of the proposal's review.
  2. Upload all project-related files to the ORD online project application system. Submit the application online to the ORD by the announced deadline, Mon, Sep. 15, 2025. No late applications will be accepted.

Funding relocation application

In accordance with the official letter No. 1100042067 dated June 24, 2021, in order to speed up the process, when relocation of project funding issued by ORD (accounting codes: L7, L8, L9, V) is in need, please submit the funding relocation application by electronic official documents. The examples of the electronic official document and the funding relocation application (no seal required at the bottom of the application form) are attached down below for reference.
