Congratulations on your admission to the University of Chicago, we are thrilled you will be joining the international college student population representing over 68 different countries from around the world!  We believe that you will truly find the University of Chicago to be a wonderfully welcoming community where you can pursue your deepest intellectual interests.

## Transitioning into the College

In order to aid your transition into the College, we invite incoming international students to apply to participate in the [International Pre-Orientation](https://college.uchicago.edu/student-life/international-pre-orientation) (IPO) Program. Sessions offered during IPO will help students begin their transition into the College and will help students prepare for their first year in Chicago. For students with little or no experience in an American classroom, this program will prove to be extremely worthwhile.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us at [college-programming@uchicago.edu](mailto:college-programming@uchicago.edu) or call us at 773.702.8616.

The [Office of International Affairs](https://internationalaffairs.uchicago.edu/) has many resources and support services available for international students. Visit the [OIA Admitted Students Website](https://internationalaffairs.uchicago.edu/students/admitted-students) for information about the student visa process, resources like the International Student Checklist, and to register for international student webinars that take place over the summer months.

Residence halls close over winter break and students are required to make alternate housing accommodations during this period. Limited on-campus housing during the break may be available by request. More break housing details will be shared with on-campus students during Autumn Quarter. Please visit the [Housing & Residence Life website](https://housing.uchicago.edu/) for more details about living on campus.
