All University Students must comply with the Student Account Policies as indicated in the Financial Responsibility Agreement. The Office of the Bursar is authorized to place a Student Account Hold on future quarter registration and diploma release for a past due balance on a Student Account.

Registration Hold

Registration Holds are placed on past-due Student Accounts during the sixth and tenth weeks of each quarter of the academic year.

Registration Holds are placed on matriculated student account balances greater than $1,600.

Once a Registration Hold is placed on a Student Account, the past-due balance must be paid in full for it to be automatically removed.

If you are unable to remit your past-due balance in full, you are eligible to appeal this hold.

Appeals are only considered for the following circumstances:

Diploma Hold

Diploma holds are placed on graduating student account balances greater than zero dollars during the sixth week of the quarter or when an application to graduate is submitted thereafter.

Once a Diploma Hold is placed on a Student Account, the past-due balance must be paid in full for the diploma to be released.

To have your diploma available at Convocation, all payments must be received no later than ten days before your Graduation/Convocation.

To remit your student account balance, go to my.UChicago.edu, Finances, My Account, and then click on View EBill/EPay. We offer several payment options.

Finally, please remember to update your contact information, such as email, physical address, and phone number, in my.UChicago.edu student portal and visit the Financial Wellness section of our website with important post-graduation information.

If you are unable to remit your past-due balance in full, you are eligible to appeal this hold.

Appeals are only considered for the following circumstances:

Transcript

Transcript release is not subject to hold placement. All students may receive their academic transcripts regardless of past-due balances.

Students who separate from the University and do not resolve their past-due balances over $1,000.00 may have their balances referred to a Third-Party Collection Agency.

If you have any questions about your Financial Hold and/or wish to appeal, please at one of our service options.

Students may file a complaint regarding Student Financial Hold policies with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, Student Loan Ombudsman, at www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov or 1-800-455-2456.
