Club Sports

Sports aren't just for varsity athletes at the University of Chicago! Our Sport Club program provides additional opportunities for athletes to continue their sport. Some of UChicago's club sport teams compete at the same level as varsity teams at other schools, while others emphasize the acquisition of skills and strategies within the UChicago environment. All are for students who want to learn more in a supportive environment and to have fun, regardless of prior experience.

Intramural Teams

Intramural Sports

Most students get involved in the University of Chicago's intramural sports program, one of the most extensive in the country. Whether starting as the quarterback of their House's flag football team or cheering on Housemates at a broomball match, Houses compete against each other in tournaments, eventually battling a graduate school team for the coveted All-University Champion. Houses, and sometimes clubs, put together teams to compete in volleyball, flag football, 3-on-3 basketball, wiffleball, soccer, broomball, softball, and more! Individual and partner sports such as backgammon and chess are available as well. More than 70 percent of students participate in one or more sports at UChicago, making it one of the most popular recreational activities on campus.\ \ For more information, visit the intramural section of the athletics site.

Recent Success

Since 2022, the University of Chicago has won four Division III National Championships and 12 NCAA Division III Championships in individual competition. The Maroons' men's tennis and men's soccer team each won their first NCAA national championship in 2022. In 2024, the women's tennis team would win their first title alongside the men's team's second title. Recently, John Jayne (AB'19) and Jesse Ssengonzi (AB'24) competed in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, joining a list of Maroon Olympian athletes that includes Naomy Grand’Pierre (AB'19), the first woman to represent Haiti as swimmer.
