##
- ## Enrollment Limits & Simultaneous Enrollment
### Enrollment Limits
Summer Session and September Term courses are on an intensive schedule: two Summer Quarter courses are the equivalent of a full-time course load. While it is not recommended, students can take up to five total courses in the summer, as long as they are not enrolled in more than two courses during the same dates. Summer Language Institute courses are 300 units. They are therefore considered full-time by themselves. For assistance in enrolling in a 5th course please email [summersession@uchicago.edu](/undergraduates/undergrad-student-registration/current-uchicago-students/summersession@uchicago.edu/).
### Simultaneous Enrollments
Ordinarily, students may not enroll in courses whose class time overlaps given the expectation that all students attend courses for which they receive credit. However, simultaneous enrollment may be permitted in remotely taught courses with the permission of both instructors and the approval of the Summer Session office. Please find directions and a survey to submit a request at [2026 Undergraduate Simultaneous Enrollment Request](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAhLgNhpFBrijScC0ZivhoK7XVdO8hZI4cDmOBQGCRXACEVw/viewform?usp=header).
- ## Waitlists
> Please check the course enrollment at Class Search before submitting a request.
The [Waitlist Form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUpPdx0jr83lrShB_qBdbQpjmxIbhPzDJpV9KUqi8hz0o0xQ/viewform?usp=header) should only be used to request placement on a waitlist for a Summer course, Summer Language Institute course or September Term course that is **full**.
Please note: \
- Incomplete or inaccurate submissions won't be accommodated. \
- Students are added to a course waitlist in the order their request is submitted. Seats are filled from the waitlist as they become available in this same order (first come/first served basis). **There are no exceptions to this policy.\**- The Summer Session Office manages all waitlist requests. Appeals sent to instructors will be routed to our office.\
- If you would like to request to be placed on the waitlist for more than one course, please submit one form per request.\
- Students without an active Summer term cannot enroll themselves or be enrolled by another individual. **Please** [**request your summer term activation**](https://registrar.uchicago.edu/registration/college-process/self-term-activation/) **before submitting this form**.
- ## Add or Drop
Students who wish to add or drop a course may do so via the self-enrollment process. Please check the before dropping a class.

A written instructor's permission is required to enroll in a class that has already started.

- ## Withdrawing from a Course with a "W" on the Transcript
Requests to drop a course submitted after the drop deadline will be processed as a course withdrawal, which means:
- a "W" will appear as the course grade on your transcript and
- 100% of tuition will be billed.
The deadline to request a withdrawal from a course is the day before the final exam or before the final project due date.
