Support and Advising

Students can make an appointment through Handshake to have a strategic conversation with a career adviser.

Our team of expert advisors includes professionals with experience in in many industries related to the environment, energy, and climate.

• Sophia Wennstedt, Assistant Director of Climate and Energy Sophia supports students as they explore dynamic roles in the climate and energy sector. She brings experience designing solutions at Exelon, Tesla, and Blip Energy, along with her academic background in Mechanical Engineering from Harvard and an MBA/MSDI from Northwestern. Sophia is available for student appointments via Handshake or direct contact at swennstedt@uchicago.edu.
• Tara Ford, Senior Program Director for Careers in Physical Sciences Tara advises students interested in applying technology and science to tackling climate and energy, including renewable energy, quantum technology, battery storage, electric vehicles, and more.

UChicago Conservation Corps and Global Water Innovation Cohort

Students who obtain qualifying Conservation Corps or Global Water Innovation Cohort internships participate in professional development programming together with their peers to explore the sustainability and conservation sectors.

[Wanxiang Ambassador Fellow Program

UChicago Career Advancement partners with the Wanxiang Corporation to offer a summer program to send UChicago students to China for a six-week, pre-professional educational experience focused on exposing students to Chinese culture and language. [Clean Energy Track

The Clean Energy Track is an interactive program designed to foster exploration into clean energy career pathways. Sustainability Innovation Competition

Climate and Energy Careers host student competitions to promote professional development. In the past, competitions have focused on ESG reporting in the European Union, water innovation in Chicago, and efficient routes to decarbonize the United States.

• Renewable Energy and Decarbonization Trek (Houston, Texas) Interested in learning about how companies are moving the needle on renewable energy? Join us to learn more about decarbonization, renewable energy production, and the shifts occurring in the traditional energy sphere.
• Capitol Hill Climate and Energy Policy Trek (Washington, D.C.) Join your peers to learn about opportunities in the policy and social impact sectors. Explore how you can launch a successful career in climate and energy policy in the nation's capital!
• EPIC Trek (New Delhi, India) Offered in partnership with the Energy Policy Institute at UChicago (EPIC), this trek immerses students in how researchers are working with government and industry to tackle pollution and other environmental challenges in India.

Students on previous climate and energy treks have engaged with nonprofits, government agencies, policy think tanks, material sciences business, food-focused startups, and technology companies from Boston, California, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
