The University of Florida provides two application options, or timelines, for students to choose: Early Action (EA) or Regular Decision (RD). Each of these paths provide different decision notifications, listed in our Dates & Deadlines chart. If a student applies in EA, they will receive an admissions decision of either admit, deny, or defer. All EA decisions for admits are non-binding. If a student applies in RD, they will receive an admissions decision of either admit, waitlist, other pathways (Innovation Academy, PaCE, Partnership programs), or deny.

Deferral FAQs

What does defer mean?

If your EA admissions decision was deferred, you are still being considered for admission and we do not require you to submit any additional information in support of your application. Your application will be reviewed with the RD applicants and you will receive an updated decision on the RD Decision Release date. See our Dates & Deadlines for the RD timeline.

Waitlist FAQs

What does waitlist mean?

Prospective students will be notified if they were waitlisted on the Regular Decision and/or Extended Deadline Decision Release dates. If you were placed on our waitlist, you may be offered admission should space become available. Updated decisions may be sent between May 1 and June 30, and we will notify you of any decision status changes via your Gator Portal.

Is there anything else I can do to improve my chances of admission?

No additional documentation is needed. Your application was competitive, and we simply have limited space in our incoming class.

Is the waitlist ranked?

No. The waitlist is not ranked, nor is it organized by application date or academic profile. If space becomes available, we will carefully review all waitlisted students to make admission decisions.

How do I confirm my interest in remaining on the waitlist?

Log in to your Gator Portal and complete the waitlist form by the date requested. If we do not receive your response by this deadline, your name will be removed from the waitlist.

When will I find out whether I have been offered admission from the waitlist?

Should space become available, we will review waitlisted students for admission, and final decisions may be sent between May 1 and June 30.

What if I want to remove myself from the waitlist?

If you decide to decline your spot, simply complete the form on your Gator Portal to let us know and we’ll do the rest.

Should I accept another offer of admission?

Space on the waitlist is not guaranteed. We encourage you to carefully consider your options and make the best decision given your specific circumstance.
