##

## McNair Doctoral Program

##### Description

The **McNair Doctoral Program** is named for the late **Dr. Ronald McNair** (1950-1986, pictured left), who earned his Physics Ph.D. degree in 1976 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, became a NASA astronaut in 1978, and perished aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger during its tragic 1986 mission. It aims to honor his legacy by propelling others to reach for new heights.

The purpose of the **Ronald E. McNair Doctoral Program** at the University of Florida (UF) is to enroll and support selected students who participated in McNair undergraduate research programs across the nation. Contingent on available funding, the Graduate School will cover a $13,000 stipend, tuition, and fees for the first two years. McNair Scholars also may be eligible for a graduate assistantship from their academic unit while on the McNair Doctoral Program award.
