Webmail access instruction for students (2020-21 Autumn onwards)

The institute email-id for the new students joined in Semester 2024-2025 Autumn has been created. The email id and default [must change] password are updated in student's respective ERP profiles (Goto ERP > Academic > Students > Academic information > Biodata/Profile). Use institute email (with domain name i.e. kgpian.iitkgp.ac.in) and default password (OTP) to the https://mail.google.com. Student's must have to change the email-id password with their own choice as per password policy while logging in to the https://mail.google.com for the first time. Please use any browser from any PC or Laptop for the first time login to your email.
Password Policy:
- The password should be minimum of 8 characters and maximum of 100 characters
- Must contain at least one lowercase character, one uppercase character, one numeric and one special character
- The password should not be matched to the last password
Note:
User must change the password and doesn't share it with anybody. Often a phishing mail is generated by the compromised accounts spoofed as mail from Mail Admin or System Admin from Computer Centre with spurious contents like "to increase user mailbox storage space" or "email account is locked for maintenance" etc. The stakeholders are requested not to respond or click any hyperlink associated with such mails, rather delete it immediately. These types of mail are usually not sent by CIC. In case there is an urgent requirement it is communicated to the stakeholders with a disclaimer from Head of the Centre account. At the same time, it will also be displayed at the IIT Kharagpur noticeboard http://apna.iitkgp.ac.in and Computer Centre website http://www.cic.iitkgp.ac.in. It can also be verified by calling Computer Centre helpdesk 82391. The stakeholders must be careful while entering their password in the login window. As per the mail security policy, the five failure attempts will lock the email account.
