Short Biography Prof. Biswajit Mahanty got his B.Tech (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, in 1984. He did his M.Tech and PhD in the department of Industrial Engineering and Management (presently renamed as Industrial and Systems Engineering) from the same Institute in 1989 and 1993, respectively. He has six years of industrial expericence which includes more than five years in Bharat Earth Movers Limied (BEML) as Assistant Manager and one year in Tata Consultancy Services as System Analyst. He also worked for three months as a Visiting Faculty member in AIT, Bangkok. Since 1990, he has been a permanent faculty member in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Currently, he is a Professor (since May 2004). Prof. Mahanty has taught several courses in undergraduate and graduate levels. His academic and teaching interests are in the areas of Operations Research, Information Systems, System Dynamics, Project Management, Supply Chain Management. Prof. Mahanty has guided 14 doctoral and about 100 undergraduate and post-graduate level dissertations. Currently, he is guiding 9 research students. He has also carried out 20 industrial consulting projects and eight sponsored research projects. Prof. Mahanty has several publications in refereed journals and conferences.
