IIT Kharagpur & African-Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARDO) Scholarship Programme

The African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) and the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) are pleased to invite applications through the IIT Kharagpur and AARDO Scholarship to the Master of Science (by Research) Program , offered by IIT Kharagpur at the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering as well as Centre for Rural Development and Innovative Sustainable Technology.

This course will exclusively be focused on the On and Off Farm related technologies that will not only reduce the drudgery of rural communities in the Global South but also help them in attaining self-sustainability.

The MS (by Research) Programme at the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering as well as the Centre for Rural Development and Innovative Sustainable Technology is an exciting opportunity for the international students to pursue their passion and make a positive impact in the world of agriculture. ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture from a recognized Institute or University for a minimum of four years duration with at least 60% marks or a CGPA 6.5 (in 10 point scale).

OR

MSc. Degree in appropriate Sciences or a relevant discipline from a recognized Institute or University for a minimum 3 + 2 years duration with at least 60% marks or a CGPA 6.5 (in 10 point scale) in Science subjects or 55% marks or CGPA 6.0 (in the 10 point scale) in the case of Humanities/Social Science subjects.

Working Experience:

Candidates having a Master Degree in the relevant field should have a minimum of 5 years of working experience and person without a master degree in the relevant field should have a minimum of 10 years of work experience as per the nature of experience given below:

Nature of Experience: His/Her Working experience should be directly from the field at the level of execution or supervision or in the relevant field (Monitoring, Evaluation or Policy Planning) in the Ministry in the areas of specialization or in academic and research institute.

Type of Organization: Agriculture or allied Departments of the Government or Inter0-Governmental Organization or Academic and Research Organization.

Normally the maximum age of candidate shall be below 35 years on 1st January of the year in which the admission is applied for. However, the age limit can be relaxed to 45 years for candidates who have extensive experience in the field.

Please note:\ Foreign nationals with an eligible degree from Indian Universities will be treated on par with Indian nationals for admission. Foreign nationals with foreign degrees must meet the minimum educational requirements equivalent to an Indian Master's degree in the relevant disciplines. Foreign students are expected to have a working knowledge of English.\ If the medium of instruction for their qualifying degree was not English, applicants must produce proof of proficiency in English - IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 (overall) or a TOEFL score of 80 (overall). Test results should be dated no earlier than 15 September 2019. Foreign nationals can only register as full-time scholars.\ All the applicants should have a good academic record.\ The Selection Committees may set higher evaluation criteria than the minimum eligibility criteria listed. The selection, admission, and award of the MS degree shall be governed by the ordinances of the senate of IITKGP.\ IIT Kharagpur and AARDO Scholarship programme provides financial assistance to the students who are dedicated to their studies and have outstanding academic performance. IIT Kharagpur welcomes foreign students to apply for its doctoral programs. Please fill up the preliminary application form as the first step. Applicants with excellent undergraduate and graduate academic records are asked to appear for a video interview. The Department/ School/ Centre may put additional requirements for admission.

Joint Doctoral Programs

IIT Kgp offers Joint Doctoral Programs (JDP) with its partner institutions. JDP provides students with an exclusive opportunity to live and study in both countries during their candidature and earn their doctoral degree jointy awarded by the partner institutes. The thesis is evaluated by each Institute according to its own rules and the joint nature of the work is acknowledged in the degree certificate(s).

The Institute provides various levels of financial support to JDP students such as one round-trip international travel to the partner institute. Further details regarding support may be found from Dean (Post Graduate Studies and Research) and the Academic Section.

University of Melbourne Curtin University University of Wollongong University of Alberta University of Auckland University of Manchester *#### Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) - University of Melbourne

The program is open to first-year doctoral students of the Home Institution.

IITKGP Students: In order to be eligible, you must complete your coursework and comprehensive exam within 12 months of enrollment and have a minimum CGPA of 8.5. You need to spend 12 to 24 months in Melbourne doing research under joint-supervision. The thesis is evaluated by each Institute according to its own rules and the joint nature of the work is acknowledged in the degree certificates. Funding on both sides is available. Dual Doctoral Degree Program (DDDP) - Curtin University

The program is open to first-year doctoral students of the Home Institution. The student needs to spend at least 1 year in the partner Institution doing research under joint-supervision. The thesis is evaluated by each Institute according to its own rules and the joint nature of the work is acknowledged in the two-degree certificates. Dual Doctoral Program (DDP) - University of Wollongong

*IIT Kharagpur is offering joint programs with University of Wollongong, Australia. The institutions are promoting joint research projects and joint courses of study with two-way mobility of students who will get a Dual Doctoral Degree at the end of their dissertation work. Under the DDP, doctoral students of both the Institutes can pursue a doctoral degree under joint supervision by faculty members from both the Institutes. If admitted to DDP, the student will be required to stay for at least one year at the Host Institute/University while doing research under joint-supervision. Joint Doctoral Degree Program (JDP)- University of Alberta

The Office of International Relations is happy to share that our first joint doctoral program in North America is now signed by IITKGP. As part of this partnership, collaborating faculty members from U of Alberta and IITKGP will identify research projects for the joint degree students as part of their doctoral studies. The thesis will be evaluated by each Institute according to its own rules. As per the agreement, the student will be required to spend a period of 6 – 12 months in the host institution during the course of his/her doctoral studies. The student will get a degree certificate from the home institution ONLY; however, the parchment will acknowledge the joint nature of the work. \ For more information, click here

Jointly guided funded student projects - University of Auckland

IIT Kharagpur and the University of Auckland, NZ, have signed the Joint Doctoral Program Agreement in December 2019. Both the Institutes are looking to build up a strategic long-term academic collaboration through fully funded joint supervision of students.

The 3rd year UG student will be jointly guided by the IITKGP and UoA faculty team not only during the summer, but throughout the fourth year (as part of BTP or other project work). This joint guidance will help build up long term collaboration between the two faculty members. The year-long research collaboration may culminate in joint guidance of a student to be enrolled in IITKGP-UoA joint PhD degree program.

Masters Programs

IIT Kharagpur welcomes foreign students to apply for its masters programs. Please fill up the preliminary application form as the first step. Applicants with excellent undergraduate academic records are asked to appear for a video interview. A valid GATE score may substitute for the video interview for admission into MTech programs. Likewise, a valid JAM score may substitute for the video interview for 2-yr M.Sc. admission. Please contact the appropriate Department/ School/ Centre for the cut-off scores in GATE/JAM. Undergraduate Studies

Admission into IIT Kharagpur's undergraduate programs (along with all other IITs) is only through the Joint Entrance Exam - Advanced (JEE-Advanced) conducted by the Joint Admission Board (JAB, website https://jeeadv.ac.in/). An Indian student must first appear in and qualify in JEE Mains Examination (organised by the National Testing Agency, website:https://jeemain.nic.in/webinfo/Public/Home.aspx) in order to appear for the JEE-Advanced test.

JEE Mains is conducted only in India while JEE Advanced is conducted in India as well as in select foreign locations (currently Singapore, Dubai, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Addis Abbaba, and Colombo).

Candidates of Indian origin, regardless of citizenship, are treated at par with Indian nationals in matters of JEE and therefore must appear for JEE-Mains in order to qualify for JEE-Advanced.

Foreign nationals, as defined below, are exempt from taking the JEE Mains and can directly appear for the JEE Advanced.

The relevant excerpt from the 2018 JEE Brochure is reproduced below: \ \ " Eligibility criteria for Foreign nationals :* \

Candidates who are NOT citizens of India (by birth or naturalized), do not belong to PIO/OCI category, and whose parents are not citizens of India and do not come under PIO/OCI category at the time of registering for JEE (Advanced) 2018 are treated as foreign nationals. Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of total number of seats in every course. However, the seats allotted to PIO/OCI card holders will be under the OPEN category, but not supernumerary.

Foreign nationals are outside the ambit of reservation of seats under the OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD categories as specified herein. "*

Exchange Programs

This student exchange program covers a funded short-term visit by students between IIT Kharagpur and foreign Institutions/Universities on a reciprocal basis. The visiting student must be a full-time student enrolled in a degree program in his/her Home Institution. The nature and extent of funded support shall cover one or more from:- International travel - Travel in host country - Stay in host institution - Food - Medical Insurance - Tuition fees

Short-term Visit

Foreign students of recognized Institute/University interested in carrying out Course work / Research not leading to a degree may visit IITKGP for a short period of not exceeding two consecutive semesters with the intervening summer/winter term.\ For more information refer to the following link:
