Prof. Frank Fitzek, Speaker of CeTI
"With our research at CeTI in the field of future communication networks, we can actively contribute to solving the challenges posed by collaboration between humans and machines. With the help of the tactile internet, which enables people to interact in the real or virtual world in near real time, we are contributing to new opportunities for social exchange."

Our vision
The overarching goal of the Cluster of Excellence is to build communication platforms supported by novel digital technologies and AI to enable the exchange of skills between humans and machines working together in real and virtual spaces.
Whether it's surgical assistance through robotics, learning with digital twins, or precision industrial work synchronized with human movement, the research being conducted by the CeTI (Center for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop) Cluster of Excellence at TU Dresden focuses on how skills can be exchanged and how collaboration can be achieved between humans and machines in both real and virtual environments. The goal is to develop innovative solutions to major global challenges, including pandemics, aging populations, skill shortages, climate change, and geopolitical tensions.
Building on the first funding phase (CeTI1), CeTI2 delves into a broader range of use cases, including immersive remote collaboration, reducing travel through advanced telepresence, and enhancing technological independence through in-house development. CeTI continues to work with researchers from diverse fields, including electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, medicine, psychology, and neuroscience, on an interdisciplinary basis. Additionally, CeTI views itself as a social actor and aims to reach over 600 schools during the second funding phase to get young people excited about STEM subjects early on.
