Message on Independence day

The ancient Indian Gurukul system is a model that is based on ultimate freedom in learning. The guru would mentor each student based on the learner’s abilities and aptitude, unlike today’s classroom teaching. There were no shackles on the topic. Each learner was free to choose the topic of passion. There was no shackle on time. Each learner was free to set the pace of learning. There was no shackle on fees. Learning was free. The learner would give guru-dakshina in kind or effort according to capacity. There were no shackles of distinction based on caste or creed. Princely learners and common learners were not discriminated.

Our ancient system promulgated freedom in education for anyone, anywhere, anytime. We had this freedom. We lost it. It is worth emulating. I hope we are able to break free from all shackles and regain this freedom to learn. At CCE, we are working hard to make this happen.

Happy Independence Day!
