## R. Venkatesh Babu

\

I am a professor and Chair of the Dept. of Computational and Data Sciences ([CDS](http://cds.iisc.in)), Indian Institute of
Science ([IISc](http://www.iisc.ernet.in)), Bangalore. I
received my doctorate degree from the Dept. of Electrical Engineering,
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. I held postdoctoral
positions at  [NTNU](http://q2s.ntnu.no/), Norway and [IRISA/INRIA](http://www.irisa.fr/), Rennes, France,
through [ERCIM](http://fellowship.ercim.eu/)
fellowship. I also worked as a research fellow at
[NTU](http://www.ntu.edu.sg),
Singapore. I spent couple of years working in industry before joining
IISc in August 2010. \

My research interests include Computer Vision and Deep Learning. I am a recipient of the SERB Star (2020) and Sathish Dhawan Young Engineer Awards (2019). I am a senior member of IEEE, AAAI, Distinguised Member of ACM and Fellow of INAE. I have been recognized in the  [Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List](https://topresearcherslist.com/Home/Profile?AuthFull=Babu,%20R.%20Venkatesh&FirstYear=2001)  for 2020 to 2025, and recognized as the top AI researcher in India by the  [CSRankings.org](https://csrankings.org/#/fromyear/2015/toyear/2025/index?ai&vision&mlmining&nlp&inforet&in). I have served as a Program Chair of the AIML-Systems 2023 conference, General Co-Chair of CVIP 2024, General Chair of ICVGIP'24 and General Chair of CVIP'25.
