uoAccess credentials allow you to authenticate and access many websites, applications and systems at the University of Ottawa. There are two parts: an ID and a password.
## Your uoAccess ID
Your uoAccess ID is the short name before your @uOttawa.ca email address (e.g.: jsmit000). It excludes any aliases or full name email addresses linked to an account.
For example, for the email account [[email protected]](https://www.uottawa.ca/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection), the following are not valid uoAccess IDs:
- John.Smith: even if the full name email address “[[email protected]](https://www.uottawa.ca/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection)” has been created for the account [[email protected]](https://www.uottawa.ca/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection)
- JohnS: even if an alias “JohnS@uOttawa” has been linked to the account [[email protected]](https://www.uottawa.ca/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection)
### Your uoAccess password
- Employees: your uoAccess password is the same one used for systems such as Outlook/Exchange, VirtuO, and UNIWeb.
- Students: your uoAccess password is the same one used for systems such as Google, uoZone, and Library applications.
To change your uoAccess password, use the [uoAccess self-serve](https://www.uottawa.ca/about-us/information-technology/services/account) tool. Need help? Contact the [Service Desk](https://www.uottawa.ca/about-us/information-technology/contact).
