Take undergraduate courses while in the EIP
All students enrolled in the program’s ESL 0140 course take CMN 1148 — Introduction to Organizational Communication.
Students entering undergraduate programs at uOttawa can take one additional course in mathematics, engineering or chemistry while completing ESL 0140. We’re pleased to offer these additional courses at a 20% discount for students who’ve received conditional offers of admission.

- Tuition must be paid in full by the first day of class. Dates and fees are subject to change without notice. Students in the English Intensive Program are not eligible for government financial assistance.
- Students may be eligible for a tuition refund if their registration to the EIP is cancelled or if their study permit is refused. To qualify for a refund, students must send a request to [email protected] . Requests must be submitted before the last day to enroll for the term in which the student is admitted. No refunds will be issued after this deadline. More details may be found on our regulations page.
- New students must participate in Integration Days before starting the English Intensive Program.

- UHIP Health Insurance coverage is mandatory for all students. UHIP premiums are calculated based on when you begin your program. Coverage typically runs from September 1st to August 31st. For more information in the UHIP health insurance, please consult the UHIP webpage.
- This health benefit and dental insurance plan is mandatory for all conditional offer students who start in the fall terms. It is optional for conditional offer students who start in the winter terms. Please follow this link for more information.
- Due to the validity of the U-Pass in the Fall (September 1 – April 30), eligible full-time students are charged the full amount in the Fall term.
This means that even if you are only registered for full-time courses in the Fall term, you will still be charged the full amount. If you aren’t full-time during the Winter term, you must submit an opt-out form before the deadline in order to obtain your Winter fee adjustment.

Sponsored individuals are not eligible for tuition discounts and will pay regular tuition fees of $6,815 per session.
- Students may be eligible for a tuition refund if their registration to the EIP is cancelled or if their study permit is refused. - The CA$100 admission fee is a one-time, non-refundable fee which only applies to new students who do not have a University of Ottawa student ID and have never been enrolled in a program at the Centre for Language Learning.

Course levels and schedule
The English Intensive Program offers five levels, from beginner to intermediate-advanced. When you apply, you complete a language evaluation to ensure you’re placed in courses suitable to your level.
The program is offered each term (three times per year) and is spread over 14 weeks. All courses are delivered in person (100% in-class learning).
- Spring-Summer 2026: May 20 to August 21, 2026

- Spring-Summer 2027: May 25 to August 20, 2027
New students must attend the Integration Day on the day prior to the first day of class.
ESL 0105 Foundations in English (beginners)
- Introduces you to English, focusing on everyday phrases and expressions
- Lets you speak English using short, basic sentences
- Enables you read and understand simple texts on familiar subjects
- Gives you the skills to write short messages and descriptions, laying a solid foundation in grammar
- Gives you a chance to present yourself in English, the first step towards fluency

ESL 0110 Entry in English (elementary)
- Lets you have basic conversations, helping you express ideas and emotions
- Helps you expand your vocabulary
- Enhances your reading comprehension through engaging texts
- Develops your writing by letting you craft short paragraphs that tell your story
- Lets you showcase your interests through a presentation, a step towards effective public speaking

ESL 0140 Academic Bridging in English (intermediate-advanced)
- Gives you confidence in social and academic settings
- Gives you a rich vocabulary and advanced grammar, for articulate, nuanced communication
- Develops your analytical reading skills, crucial for understanding complex texts and ideas
- Helps you write compelling essays and reports, showcasing your critical thinking
- Gives you experience in delivering presentations on global issues
CMN 1148: Introduction to Organizational Communication (three credits)
- Study of the basic concepts in interpersonal and organizational communication. Processes and communication networks one-one one, and in small groups and organizations.
