The Registrar’s Office and the Personnel Department jointly established the Training Program on MOOC-related Educational Technologies, as part of PKU’s faculty development. Starting from 2014, the training program is designed to train 100 teachers every year for a five-year period, and aimed at improving the ability of PKU faculty to use advanced network information technology in their teaching practices and thus enhancing their teaching quality. At the same time, the training program has launched a selected number of high-quality courses on the world-renowned MOOC platform, so as to give the general public access to PKU’s high-quality educational resources, promote educational equity and increase PKU’s global influence.
By the end of 2016, 17 MOOC sessions had been held, with a focus on practical use, and more than 300 teachers had participated in the training. The training methods include lecturing, discussions and practices. Teachers participating in the training program will be guided to develop MOOC content for 1-2 weeks on PKU’s Chinese MOOC platform (http://www.chinesemooc.org) and encouraged to apply such content in their teaching practices in the forms of hybrid teaching methods such as “flipped classroom”. This also serves as a criterion to measure whether the training requirements are met. The specific schedule of the MOOC training program is shown in the following table:
| Arrangement | Content | Requirement | Lecturer |
| Session 1 | PKU MOOCs, MOOC Concept and MOOC Development Experience | Compulsory | LI Xiaoming, WANG Shengqing and FENG Xuesong |
| Session 2 | MOOC Teaching Design | Compulsory | LIU Ling and FENG Fei |
| Session 3 | MOOC Videotaping, Editing and Platform Operations | Optional | WANG Kai and FENG Xuesong |
| Discussions | Mooc Salon | Optional | Hosts: WANG Shengqing and FENG Xuesong |
For teachers who have passed the training program, PKU will issue them a certificate that is jointly signed by the Personnel Department and the Registrar's Office, and will give them priority in opening MOOC sessions. At present, dozens of PKU teachers who completed the training program have successively opened their MOOC sessions on the world-renowned MOOC platforms including Coursera, EDX and PKU’s own Chinese MOOC platform.
