Greetings from Japan!

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in collaboration with the ASEAN University Network (AUN) is now calling for applications for the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan 2026/2027. This program supports pre- and post-doctoral researchers from ASEAN in all academic fields to conduct short- to medium-term research in Japan under the guidance of a host researcher. The fellowship offers generous financial support and aims to strengthen academic cooperation between ASEAN and Japan.

We are pleased to inform you that the application for JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan 2026/2027is now open for pre- and post- doctoral students and staff of Universitas Gadjah Mada.

FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW

• Duration: 1 Apr 2026 – 31 Mar 2027 (1–12 months)
• Support Includes:
• Round-trip airfare
• Monthly allowance: 362,000 JPY (Ph.D.) / 200,000 JPY (pre-Ph.D.)
• Settling-in allowance: 200,000 JPY (for stays of 3+ months)

Application Guidelines

ELIGIBILITY

1. ASEAN nationals with a Ph.D. (obtained within 6 years, outside Japan).
2. Doctoral students expecting to graduate within 2 years
3. Non-ASEAN nationals engaged in research in ASEAN for 3+ years

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

1. Completed application form
2. Acceptance letter from Japanese host researcher
3. Ph.D. diploma or expected completion certificate
4. Recommendation letter from doctoral advisor or equivalent (If you need a letter of recommendation letter from the UGM rector/director, please submit your request to OIA via scholarship@ugm.ac.id no later than 31 July 2025).

1. Apply directly to Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) International Fellowship. Kindly refer to the application form.
2. The deadline is 15 August 2025.
3. The FINAL decision is from *Japan Society for the Promotion of Science*.
