Hydrogen offers the scope to deliver energy security, acceleration to Net Zero and reduce Britain’s productivity gap.

The Hydrogen Works is a strategic consortium led by Loughborough University to drive hydrogen skills, innovation and productivity to create a hydrogen superpower in the East Midlands.

## Our activities

- Bringing academic experts and industry partners together to deliver cutting-edge hydrogen research and innovation at the University’s [state-of-the-art facilities](https://www.lboro.ac.uk/research/hydrogen/research-innovation/).
- Supporting future leaders of the hydrogen economy by leading the UK’s only Centre for Doctoral Training focused on [Engineering Hydrogen Net Zero](https://www.lboro.ac.uk/research/enerhy-cdt/).
- Providing a [skills exchange](https://www.lboro.ac.uk/research/hydrogen/future-skills-ecosystem/) at the East Midlands Institue of Technology, degree level, doctoral and postdoctoral programmes.
- Creating a £40M expansion of Loughborough University [Science and Enterprise Park](https://www.lusep.co.uk) to co-locate a skills ecosystem, incubation and manufacturing, research and innovation.

## Green hydrogen facility update

East Midlands Freeport seedcorn investment for Phase 1 of The East Midlands Zero Carbon Innovation Centre will enable The Hydrogen Works to execute the first stage of construction of a green hydrogen production testing and training facility on Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park.
