We are conducting world-leading research that advances knowledge in cutting-edge areas of media and communication, with a strong focus on creating meaningful real-world impact.

Distinguished by an interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional approach, our work addresses the role of media and communication in critical challenges faced by contemporary societies, through research that ranges from the analysis of micro-level interpersonal interactions to the study of macro-level dynamics of mediated communication and culture.

Building on a tradition dating back to the 1980s, communication and media research at Loughborough has been widely recognised as world-leading. Our staff have regularly attracted large amount of funding from both UK and international funding agencies, and have been frequently invited to give keynote lectures or participate in international conferences. Leading or contributing to international research networks, they are at the forefront of methodological innovation and are seen as making a significant contribution to the study of communication and culture globally.

Our research is organised around the Centre for Research in Communication and Culture, the UK's largest research centre of its kind, and concerns three broad, interdisciplinary research themes: Language and Social Interaction; Media, Memory and History; Political Communication. We also work closely with sociology colleagues, who share our interests in issues of cultural consumption and inequality, cultural identities, and health communication, as well as with our colleagues in the Institute for Creative Futures at Loughborough University’s London Campus.
