Visa Scams
We have been made aware of fraudulent activity affecting international students who have a visa for the UK.
Students affected have received calls from callers claiming to be from the embassy or the UK Visa and Immigration to say that there is a problem with their UK visa and payment is requested to rectify the problem. The fraudsters will usually have personal details such as your name, telephone number, passport details etc.
The embassy of your country or the UK Visa and Immigration will not contact you to request for payments. Please do not make any payments in response to these calls. If you are contacted, you should attempt to end the phone call as soon as you can once you have established that it is a fraudulent call.
Please see the UK Visas and Immigration website for further details on immigration related fraud.
In order to remain vigilant, please read and acquaint yourself with the Student Financial Support team's advice on avoiding fraud and scams.
We are also aware of a number of cases related to tuition fee fraud and have posted advice on what to look out for and how to prevent fraud.
Should you wish to speak to the university about this, please contact the Visa Support Team using the details above.

A record of advice given will be noted and recorded electronically on a confidential system. All data is stored in accordance with Newcastle University’s Data Protection policy. For further details, please visit the University’s Data Protection website. In line with our obligations to the Home Office as a Student Route licensed sponsor, however, we may be required to share information on specific cases. Please ask the Visa Support Team for further details.
In the event of an institutional audit by the IAA, your record may be viewed strictly for audit purposes only. Please let your adviser know if you do not wish to have your record used for this purpose.
Complaints
If you have a complaint about the service you have received, please refer initially to our Student Complaints Procedure. If you wish to complain about any immigration advice which you consider to be poor or incorrect, you can contact the IAA.
