About Music at Newcastle
Our highly flexible undergraduate degree programmes enable you to determine a balance of practical and academic work best suited to your interests. You'll have the freedom to tailor your degree when you study music at Newcastle. You can either specialise in one kind of music or opt for a more general music education. While you will have broad-based music education, as you progress through your degree you can choose to specialise in musicology, performance, or composition.
We perform, compose, research, and teach a wide variety of music. Whatever degree programme you choose, you'll have opportunities to study topics and approaches across a range of music.
What we offer
Freedom to choose: Our teaching covers an array of musical genres, including classical, world and folk. Our modules span music technology, performance, theory, and practical skills.
Performance opportunities: We support a vibrant programme of live music, with weekly performances both on campus and at local venues.
Outstanding facilities: You'll have access to specialist music facilities, including state-of-the-art studios, rehearsal spaces, practice rooms and recording studios.
Expert teaching: Our experienced teaching staff are professional musicians and active researchers.
A musical city: Newcastle upon Tyne's thriving music scene includes everything from high-profile venues to more intimate local spots. It's also home to the UK's first co-operatively owned music venue, The Globe.
