Our research has changed the world
Newcastle has long been a crucible of technological, cultural and social change. While once the city was a byword for coal, rail, and the first electric lights, today Newcastle is the home of cutting-edge innovations in a wide array of areas including art, computing, energy futures and medicine.

Our Research Strategy plays to the University's powerful combination of attributes. Our transformative initiatives are well aligned with the changing priorities and ecosystem of research and innovation in the UK and around the world.
We work to the guiding principles of ‘visibly leading’, ‘working together’, giving people ‘freedom and opportunity to succeed’ and ‘responding to challenges’.
The priority actions under our Research Strategy encompass three ‘transformative initiatives’.
These include Newcastle University Centres of Research Excellence (NUCoREs), Newcastle University Academic Track Fellowships (NUAcT) and Newcastle University Academies.
