Newcastle University undergraduate tuition fees

UK students

Home students starting in 2025 entry

For Home undergraduate students, course fees nationally are subject to a government fee cap

In November 2024 the government increased the maximum fee level from £9,250 to £9,535 for 2025/26.

Tuition fees are payable for each year of your course. £9,535 is the maximum fee set by the UK government that we are permitted to charge for home fee-paying students for the academic year 2025-26.

As a general principle, you should expect the tuition fee to increase in each subsequent academic year of your course, subject to government regulations on fee increases and in line with inflation.

This is to ensure we can continue to invest in a high-quality student education experience and support in the face of rising operational costs.

Example fees

This is an example for illustrative purposes only, of what the fees might rise to for a three-year course should the government agree a year-on-year inflationary rise from 2025, assuming the government’s index of inflation remains at 3.1% for each of the three years.

Year 1 £9,535

Year 2 £9,831

Year 3 £10,135

Tuition fee loan

You may be eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan and if you are accepted, you will not have to pay any tuition fees up-front or while you are studying.

Additional costs

Please note that some of our degrees involve additional costs which are not covered by your tuition fee.

EU students

Depending on your residency history, if you’re a student from the EU, other EEA or a Swiss national, with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, you’ll normally pay the ‘Home’ tuition fee rate and may be eligible for Student Finance England support.

EU students without settled or pre-settled status will normally be charged fees at the ‘International’ rate and will not be eligible for Student Finance England support. You may be eligible for a scholarship worth 25% off the international fee.

If you are unsure of your fee status, check out the latest guidance here.

International students

Tuition fee information for international students is set out on our individual degree pages for each degree.

Further information

Current students

If you are a current student, please visit our tuition fee pages for finance information.

Early payment discount

You may be eligible for a 2% discount off your annual tuition fees by paying them up front and in full.

Find out more about funding and discounts.

Non-payment of fees

The University will withhold your degree certificate if you have not paid your tuition fees. We explain this policy in the University General Regulations (PDF: 322KB).

Paying your fees

We want to protect you by making sure you don't take unnecessary risks with your money.

To ensure your safety in paying your tuition fees, we will no longer accept cash payments from the 2020/21 academic year.

We offer you many other payment options by safer and more secure means.

University tuition fees are not subject to exchange control regulations for Chinese students.

Find out more about tuition fee payment methods.

Living costs

Home fee students will need to allow around £9,500-£10,500 a year for living costs. This figure is for guidance only. It will depend on your own personal spending patterns and how you manage your money.

Find out more about cost of living.

Additional course costs

We aim to minimise additional costs to students but some of our degrees involve costs that tuition fees do not cover. To make sure that you budget accurately for university life, check if your degree requires any additional course costs.
