Your career journey
Career development is a personal journey. We provide resources, support and information for each stage of your career journey. We offer support throughout your studies and also for up to three years after graduation.
Our careers and employability service will support you to succeed in today's competitive job market.

How we support you
Our Careers team and Graduate Outcomes team provide support, guidance, and dedicated resources. They lead on the careers and employability strategy. This includes several key strands, with various types of support available in each one:
Career planning
Career planning support includes:
- one-to-one careers guidance. Attend appointments and drop-ins to shape and explore your career planning
- employer connections.Attend events designed to grow your professional network in specific sectors. Recent events have included trips to Bloomberg, PwC, UBS, Lloyds and P&G
- skills development. Access workshops, information sessions, networking and training to develop your skills
- application support.Get advice on CV writing, interview techniques and strategies to help your job search
Skills development and entrepreneurship
Our skills development sessions are led by industry experts. The sessions will ensure you graduate with the skills to make an impact.
Sessions include:
- technical skills development. Gain hands-on experience with industry-leading tools, including Bloomberg, Power BI, Tableau, and AmplifyMe, to enhance your analytical and financial expertise
- competitions and challenges. Examples include a Sustainable Business Challenge, SERS Case Competition, and the Bloomberg Trading Challenge
- software and e-resources. Access LinkedIn Learning, Microsoft Office Specialist Certificates, Graduates First, and GoinGlobal
- soft skills development. Develop workplace etiquette, presentation skills, and networking techniques to prepare for the world of work
- Start-Up support. Weekly drop-ins provide specialist guidance and support to entrepreneurs. Get support on topics relating to enterprise, including business planning and funding opportunities

Industry insights
We work with UK and international employers to provide interactive events and opportunities. These allow you to engage with a range of industry contacts.
Events include:
- annual Career Success Conference. An event targeting careers, including accountancy, finance, consulting, digital, creative, HR and marketing
- Careers in Asia series. A programme of employer engagement opportunities, including in-person recruitment fairs in China
- networking opportunities. In-person events in the School and across the UK to build contacts with employers and alumni
- guest speakers. Business experts provide insights linked to key principles of business. These include leadership, specific industry experience and functional areas of business
- teaching faculty. Many of our academics have led successful careers in industry before joining the Business School. Learn from their experience, so you can work across global contexts after your studies
Developing experience
Learn first-hand how organisations function. This is fundamental to making an impact in tomorrow’s business world. It is why we embed real experiences into everything we do.
You will have access to the below opportunities:
- work experience. You can undertake term time paid employment to enhance your employability skills
- internships. Experience paid part-time internships with employers
- access to graduate jobs. Access a dedicated portal with part-time and full-time hiring opportunities
- Jobs-on-Campus. Undertake paid part-time work assignments designed to fit around your studies
- study abroad. You'll have the opportunity to have an international experience in exciting global locations
Working with businesses
Connect and engage with employers from industry and get one step ahead in your career.
You can do this through:
- experiential site visits. Attend visits to graduate employers including P&G, UBS, BlackRock, Lloyds, Bloomberg, PwC, THG, Second Home
- internships. Undertake paid opportunities to develop your skills and gain real-world experience
- consultancy projects. Test your teamwork skills to solve a business-led challenge

Placements and study abroad
Undergraduate students have the option to undertake a placement year or study abroad. This takes place after the successful completion of the second year of study.
We have a dedicated team who can support you in exploring your options to discover the best fit for you.

Business and Career Ambassadors
Students can apply to become a paid Ambassador through a competitive recruitment process. Our Ambassadors support the delivery of projects, events and activities throughout the year. This will give you:
- networking opportunities with university staff and students
- paid opportunities to develop and test your leadership and employability skills
- a range of new skills
- a safe space to explore career-led opportunities

Facilities and resources
We've invested in our facilities to ensure that careers support is accessible to all students.
Our facilities include an on-campus:
- Career Hub, a dedicated space in the Business School. Access informal information and support on a daily basis. We also offer workshops and host hub takeovers with graduate employers
- Bloomberg Financial Lab. Experience a real trading floor and work with Bloomberg Terminals. Develop skills in the financial markets and take part in an annual global competition
Alumni connections
We have a global network of more than 34,000 alumni over 150 countries. Our alumni engage with our students through a range of events and activities. These include:
- alumni networking events. Attend social events to meet with alumni, both locally and across the UK
- guest speakers. Alumni provide insights in to their journeys and experiences in a range of careers
- opportunities in industry. Our alumni provide current students with placement opportunities, internships, company visits and more
