Overview
Gain the advanced skills needed to tackle today’s complex public health challenges. These postgraduate programmes in Public Health will equip you to make a real difference to health and wellbeing in the UK and globally.
Our Public Health programmes will evaluate and critically appraise approaches to health and disease. They will prepare you for a career in public health in the UK and internationally with roles in:

How you'll learn
You can study the Master's programme full time for one year or part time over two or three years.
The MPH programme includes 120 credits of taught modules and a 60-credit supervised research project and dissertation. Your dissertation will showcase the practical research and analytical skills you develop throughout the course.
The Postgraduate Diploma comprises modules to a credit value of 120. It is studied full-time over 9 months and part-time over 21 months.
The Postgraduate Certificate comprises modules to a credit value of 60 and is studied part-time over 9 months.
You'll receive various methods of teaching including:

We encourage active learning through discussion, problem-solving and group work. Some teaching sessions may involve student presentations, and preparation or further reading.

Your development
The research project serves as the culmination of the skills you've gained throughout the course. It allows you to apply what you've learned in a real-world setting. You’ll collaborate with research teams and expert academic staff to develop a project aligned with real-world public health priorities. Choose from a wide range of topics or propose your own, working with organisations shaping public health policy and practice. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge public health research.
Projects vary and can involve:
- primary data collection (quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods)
- secondary analysis of a wide range of available datasets
- systematic review
You'll learn introductory and advanced research methods. You'll also have regular research supervision throughout the course. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with external partners. These partners are engaged in public health practice and policy.

EU, other EEA and Swiss nationals - tuition fee status
Depending on your residency history, if you’re a student from the EU, other EEA or a Swiss national, with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, you’ll normally pay the ‘Home’ tuition fee rate and may be eligible for Student Finance England support.
EU students without settled or pre-settled status will normally be charged fees at the ‘International’ rate and will not be eligible for Student Finance England support. You may be eligible for a scholarship worth 25% off the international fee. Search our funding database.

Before you start
Start Dates
The course starts in September.
Closing Dates
There is no application closing date for this course, but we recommend that you apply by the start of September.
We suggest international students apply at least two months before the course starts. This is so that you have enough time to make the necessary arrangements.
Deposit
All International students
If you are an international student or a student from the EU, EEA or Switzerland and you need a visa to study in the UK, you must pay a deposit or submit an official letter of sponsorship. The deposit is payable after you receive an offer to study with us. This deposit is non-refundable and will be deducted from your tuition fees when you register. You may also be subject to academic and English language qualification verification, confirmation of funds and credibility interviews.
International students who received an offer before 18 March 2026
- You are required to pay a £1,500 deposit or submit an official letter of sponsorship.
International students Bangladesh, Ghana, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan who received an offer after 18 March 2026
- You are required to pay a deposit of £5,000 or submit an official letter of sponsorship by 01 August 2026.
