Tuition fee refunds

In accordance with the University’s policy on tuition fees refunds, the amount of any tuition fees refunded is dependent on the date of withdrawal from the course of study. Full details of this policy are available on request.

Home fee paying undergraduate and PGCE students

If you wish to withdraw from your programme of study at Newcastle University, the amount of tuition fees you are liable to pay will depend on the term in which you withdraw or suspend:

Students with a tuition fee loan

If you have a loan for tuition fees, the University will notify the Student Loan Company that your liability for tuition fees has reduced. Therefore the amount of your loan will be reduced by the Student Loans Company. No refunds will be made directly to the student if they are in receipt of a tuition fee loan.


New International fee paying and postgraduate students

If you commenced your programme of study at the start of Term 1 and decide that you wish to suspend or withdraw from your programme of study, the amount of the tuition fees you pay will be based on the dates you were registered across.

Census Point 1 29/09/2025 10% of your programme fee
Census Point 2 01/10/2025 20% of your programme fee
Census Point 3 01/11/2025 30% of your programme fee
Census Point 4 01/12/2025 40% of your programme fee
Census Point 5 01/01/2026 50% of your programme fee
Census Point 6 01/02/2026 60% of your programme fee
Census Point 7 01/03/2026 70% of your programme fee
Census Point 8 01/04/2026 80% of your programme fee
Census Point 9 01/05/2026 90% of your programme fee
Census Point 10 01/06/2026 100% of your programme fee

For example: if you were registered from the start of Term 1 and up until 5th November then you will be charged 30% of the full year's tuition fee as you have passed census point 3.

If you commenced your programme after the start of Term 1 then please contact the Tuition Fees Team to establish how you will be charged.

Continuing International fee paying and postgraduate students

Students who have never been charged a part year before 24/25:

If you decide that you wish to suspend or withdraw from your programme of study, and you have never been charged on a pro rata basis then please refer to the guidance 'New International fee paying and postgraduate students'.

Students who previously been charged a part year before 24/25:

If you decide that you wish to suspend or withdraw from your programme of study, and you have previously been charged on a pro rata basis, the amount of the tuition fees you will be liable to pay will depend on:

the numbers of weeks’ you were registered as a proportion of 30 or 31 weeks

this is based on how the University calendar falls in the normal undergraduate academic year (41 or 42 weeks for postgraduate programmes)
