FAU accompanies researchers along their entire career path: from a doctoral degree (R1), through the postdoc phase (R2) to a professorship (R3/R4). Whether you are completing a doctoral degree, gaining further academic qualifications, or are aiming at a professorship, FAU is the place to come for guidance, advice and tailored support.

## From a doctoral degree to a professorship

Around 800 doctoral degrees are awarded at FAU every year. The path toward a doctoral degree is the start of a career in research: It starts during the doctoral phase, continues during the postdoctoral phase and culminates in a professorship, where possible. FAU Early Career Support and Graduate CenterFAU Early Career Support is the central point of contact for doctoral candidates, early postdoctoral researchers, and supervisors at FAU. It also serves as an umbrella organization for structured doctoral programs.
