Short-term mobility (BIP)

As part of a blended intensive program (BIP), students can take part in short, in-person group mobility (for between 5 and 30 days) combined with a virtual phase at an Erasmus+ partner university with which a cooperation agreement has been made.

A central element of the BIPs is the obligatory virtual component that allows students to prepare for, make the most of, and follow up on the short mobility phase. The scope and frequency of the virtual component are determined at the discretion of the universities offering the program and depend on the learning outcome of the various courses.

The format also offers students who might not be able to complete a longer stay abroad for various reasons the opportunity to gain some international experience.

Students who receive funding should be able to receive at least 3 ECTS credits that count towards their final degree.

A BIP is held in partnership with Erasmus+ partner universities, i.e. students can only participate in BIPs if FAU has signed a contract allowing participation.

Current short-term mobility projects

FAU currently takes part in the following BIPs, has successfully applied for EU funding for them and has concluded the relevant Erasmus contracts with the universities.

How much funding is available for students?

Students who are participating in a BIP abroad and would like to receive funding have to observe the same Erasmus+ procedures before, during and after the stay abroad as they would if they were spending a whole semester abroad. This includes submitting an application to the department as well as a nomination and submitting the relevant documents to International Affairs. The exact amount available for the scholarship is listed on our website on Erasmus+ funding rates.

The total amount is paid before the stay abroad, once all relevant documents have been submitted.

Application process and organizational matters

Nomination

First of all, you should apply at your department, institute or school. After your nomination is sent to International Affairs, you will receive further information on the application process by email as well as the request to register and apply via the “Mobility Online” portal where student exchanges at FAU are processed. Further steps may then include registering in the partner institution’s application portal (after you are asked to do so).

There are also BIPS hosted at FAU that FAU students can participate in but students are not eligible to receive funding.
