Exchanges are offered at FAU’s partner universities as part of the regular call for applications in the winter semester of the relevant academic year with an application deadline in fall. FAU students can spend one to two semesters abroad at the partner universities listed below as part of the direct exchange program FAUexchange. As a rule, exchange students are exempt from tuition fees at the partner university abroad. Further information can be found on our page on application procedures.

Argentinia
Semester dates in Argentina: March to July (1st semester) and end of July/beginning of August to December (2nd semester).
1. Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM)
- Study options: Humanities and social sciences, engineering, business and economics
- Level of study: Bachelor’s or Master’s
- Teaching language: Spanish

Brazil
Semester dates in Brazil: January/February to July (1st semester) and end of July/beginning of August to December (2nd semester).
1. Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)
- Study options: Humanities and social sciences, engineering, sciences, business and economics
- Level of study: Mainly Bachelor’s. Master’s students who would like to study at UFSC should clarify with International Affairs during the application process whether it is possible to study at Master’s level at the host university.

2. Universidade da Região de Joinville (Univille)

Chile

1. Universidad Austral de Chile
- Study options: Humanities and social sciences, engineering, sciences, business and economics

China
Semester dates in China: September to January (winter semester) and February to July (summer semester).
1. Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST)
- Study options: Only natural sciences and engineering (chemistry, chemical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, energy technology, life science, materials science, mathematics, mechanical engineering, molecular biology, physics)
- Level of study: Master’s degrees
- Teaching language: English, Chinese
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Unfortunately, Chinese citizens cannot apply for an exchange at HUST.
India
1. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras)
- Special feature: Students from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology, and the Faculty of Sciences will receive preferential treatment when spaces are allocated.
- Study options: Selected courses in the humanities, engineering, sciences and business studies.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s or Master’s
- Teaching language: English
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
Japan
- Study options:
- iExPo: Attending regular teaching units in Japanese, additional courses may be available in English (admission requirements: a high level of proficiency in Japanese at JLPT level N2 or N1).
- OUSSEP: A very restricted range of courses is available in English, usually in combination with a Japanese language course (admission requirements: proficiency in English; knowledge of Japanese not required), predominantly for Bachelor’s students who have already studied four semesters at FAU before starting to study in Japan.
- FrontierLab@Osaka: A laboratory course (only for certain areas of research in engineering and sciences) with the option to attend teaching units taught in Japanese or English (admission requirements: proficiency in English or Japanese at JLPT level N2).
- Maple: Intensive one-year course in Japanese language and culture (admission requirements: proficiency in Japanese, JLPT level N3).
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Teaching language: Japanese, English
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.0 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
Students of Japanese Studies who would like to study at Osaka University should apply directly via the Chair of Japanese Studies.
Colombia
Semester dates in Columbia: January to July (1st semester) and early/mid July to December (2nd semester).

2. Universidad de Guanajuato (UGTO)
- Study options: Humanities (Romance languages), engineering (chemical engineering, materials science), sciences (chemistry)

3. Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG)
- Study options: All subject areas
- Level of study: Bachelor’s or Master’s

Exchanges at the School of Business, Economics and Society are organized directly by the International Relations Office in Nuremberg.
Exchanges at the Institute of Economics at the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology are organized directly by the Institute itself.
4. Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México (UIA)
- Study options: Humanities and social sciences, engineering, sciences, business and economics
- Level of study: Bachelor’s or Master’s
- Teaching language: Spanish
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
Exchanges at the School of Business, Economics and Society are organized directly by the International Relations Office in Nuremberg.
- Special feature: Open only to students of the Faculty of Engineering, the School of Business, Economics and Society, and the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology.
- Study options: all courses offered apart from at the School of Science. Exchange students cannot study medicine or health sciences.
- Level of study: Only Bachelor’s
- Teaching language: Spanish
- Workload at the target university: If the application is successful, students are expected by the target university to take a certain number of courses per semester (expected workload per semester: 18 units)
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
South Korea
Semester dates in South Korea: September to December (winter semester) and March to June (summer semester).
The partner universities in South Korea offer courses in English. Not all universities expect students to have a knowledge of Korean.
- Special feature: Open only to students of the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Engineering, and the School of Business, Economics and Society.
- Study options: All degree programs offered in the area of business and economics, sciences and engineering. Exchange students cannot study at the School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, School of Medicine, School of Law and Global MBA or the Graduate School of International Studies.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Teaching language: English and Korean
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.3 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
Students from the School of Business, Economics and Society who would like to study at CAU should apply directly via the International Relations Office
2. Chungnam National University
- Study options: Students can choose from all degree programs on offer but it is not possible to study medicine or dentistry.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Teaching language: Korean, English
- Wide range of degree programs available in English in humanities and social sciences, engineering, sciences and business and economics e.g. Asian studies, biology, business and economics, chemistry, chemical and biological engineering, geosciences, life science, materials science, mathematics, physics, political science, psychology.
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Study options: Students can choose from all degree programs on offer but it is not possible to study medicine or dentistry.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s. As only few courses are taught in English at Master’s level, Master’s students are recommended to enroll at Inha for Bachelor’s level courses.
- Teaching language: Korean, English
- Wide range of degree programs available in English in the humanities and social sciences, engineering, sciences and business and economics e.g. Asian studies (Chinese studies, Japanese studies), chemical and biological engineering, computer science, economics, electrical engineering, energy technology, English studies, geosciences, industrial engineering, materials science, mathematics, mechanical engineering, physics, political science, sports science, teaching.
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.0 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
4. Pusan National University (PNU)
- Study options: Students can choose from all degree programs on offer, but it is not possible to study medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or law.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Teaching language: Korean, English
- Wide range of degree programs available in English in the humanities and social sciences, engineering, sciences and business and economics e.g. Asian studies, biology, chemistry, chemical and biological engineering, computer science, economics, electrical engineering, energy technology, English studies, industrial engineering, life science, materials science, mathematics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, molecular and cell biology, nanotechnology, physics, political science, sports science, teaching.
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Special feature: It is not possible to attend teaching units in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing science or law.
- Special feature: Students can choose from all degree programs on offer but it is not possible to study medicine or dentistry. Students from the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology and the School of Business, Economics and Society will receive preferential treatment when allocating spaces.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s. Master’s degree programs only open to students with a sound knowledge of Korean.
- Teaching language: Korean. In some Bachelor’s degree programs teaching units are offered in English. Bachelor’s applicants should have a sound knowledge of both Korean and English (if sufficient courses are offered in English). Master’s applicants are expected to have a sound knowledge of Korean.

Taiwan
Semester dates in Taiwan: September to January (winter semester) and February to June (summer semester).
1. National Chung Cheng University (CCU)
- Special feature: Only open to students from the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Business, Economics and Society.
- Study options: All degree programs offered in the area of business and economics and engineering. Restrictions may apply on accessing study programs.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.3 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
2. National Taiwan University (NTU)
- Study options: Students can choose from all degree programs on offer but it is not possible to study medicine or dentistry.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Teaching language: Chinese, English
- Wide range of degree programs available in English in the humanities and social sciences, engineering, sciences and business and economics e.g. Asian studies, chemistry, chemical and biological engineering, computer science, economics, electrical engineering, English studies, life science, materials science, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, medical engineering, philosophy, physics, political science, law.
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.0 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
Students from the School of Business, Economics and Society who would like to study at NTU or CCU should apply directly via the International Relations Office
USA
Semester dates in the USA: August to December (Fall Term) and January to May (Spring Term).
Due to admission restrictions at the US partner universities, students of medicine, dentistry and the School of Law cannot study in the USA.
1. University of Georgia (Athens, Georgia)
- Study options: All degree programs except for Master of Business Administration (MBA), law, pharmacy, medicine and dentistry
- Level of study: only Master’s
- Teaching language: English
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Please note: You must submit a TOEFL certificate with your application as proof of language ability.
- Minimum grade required for application: Good grades (an average grade of at least 2.3) at the time when filing the application at FAU.
2. University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kansas)
- Study options: only graduate degree programs; admission only possible to degree programs offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and to the Professional Schools except for Business, Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medicine.
- Level of study: only Master’s
- Teaching language: English
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Special feature: Please note: You must submit a TOEFL certificate with your application as proof of language ability.
3. Minnesota State University (Mankato, Minnesota)
- Study options: all degree programs except for law, medicine and dentistry
- Level of study: only Bachelor’s degree programs; students studying Master’s degree programs at FAU can be admitted to undergraduate degree programs at the MNSU
- Teaching language: English
- Funding available: waiver of tuition fees or reduction of tuition fees to 5,380 USD per semester (in 2024/25).
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.3 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
4. Troy University (Troy, Alabama)
- Special feature: Students from the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology, the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Engineering will receive preferential treatment when spaces are allocated.
- Study options: The most suitable options for exchange students are humanities and business. It is not possible to study medicine, dentistry, law or engineering.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Credits at the host university: A certain number of courses must be taken each semester (24-46 ac. credits per semester, 12 are obligatory, the rest is recommended).
- Teaching language: English
- Funding available: Waiver of tuition fees
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.3 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
