While the FAU appointment procedure is aimed specifically at attracting and retaining professors, the integrated FAU appointments and career system is aimed at career paths at university in general. This system offers clearly identifiable career paths based on the highest international standards and documented, transparent performance criteria.

Career Tracks

FAU’s appointments procedure and career development measures are implemented in three parallel quality-assured paths that are equal in terms of their prospects known as the FAU Career Tracks. These three Career Tracks are geared towards the career development of all researchers at FAU and involve both the development of early career researchers and the appointment and development of professors. Researchers receive support on their career track for the career option that suits them best.

FAU Change Track

The FAU Change Track allows staff to move from one institution to another and represents the most conventional form of career progression and appointment. It contributes to the expansion of the national and international academic network and changes in personnel ensure that the necessary dynamics and flexibility of the academic system are preserved.

Supporting organizations

FAU Tenure Track

The FAU Tenure Track secures performance-oriented development of in-house talent. It closes the strategic gap in the conventional career and appointment system with regard to reliable development prospects. Tenure track professorships are consciously assigned to FAU’s key research priorities in order to strategically strengthen these profile areas.

FAU Joint Track

The cooperative career development Career Track and joint appointments are aimed specifically at opening up transitions between FAU and its external partner institutions such as research institutions, industrial and service companies or institutions in public administration. The FAU Joint Track is particularly attractive because of its joint career development across institutions as well as its joint appointments with research institutions outside the university.
