Notes on deadlines/examination periods

Announcement of examination dates

The Examinations Office sets the dates for certain examinations (large examinations) manually at the beginning of the semester. However, the majority of examinations can only be arranged after the registration period, once reliable information is available on who is actually sitting the examination.

The number of examinations, the large number of examination candidates and the need to ensure that examinations do not overlap mean that it is not possible to set the dates for all examinations manually. Taking the previously manually entered examination dates into account, after the end of the registration period, a special IT program sets the dates for the remaining examinations, ensuring that there are no overlaps.

These dates are usually available one or at the most two weeks after the end of the registration period and are then published without delay in campo.

Deadlines in Bachelor's degree programs

Deadlines for Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung (GOP)

The Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung must be passed at the latest by the end of the third subject semester. The Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung includes modules from the assessment phase. The Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung comprises the modules of the first two semester worth a total of 50 ECTS credits, or 30 ECTS credits in the degree program Information Systems.

Only completed modules from the assessment phase count. Modules that count towards the Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung may only be resat one time.

In the degree programs Business and Economics, International Business Studies, International Economic Studies and Socioeconomics, the assessment phase consists of 60 ECTS credits, this means that 10 ECTS credits may belong to modules that are not part of the Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung. For these ECTS credits, it is possible to resit the examination a second time and/or take these examinations in a later semester.

Deadline for passing the Bachelor’s examination

The Bachelor’s examination must be passed at the latest by the end of the 8th subject semester.

Extension of deadlines

After these deadlines, the Grundlagen- und Orientierungsprüfung or the Bachelor’s examination are considered to have been failed at the final attempt.

If this is due to reasons that are beyond the student’s control, an extension to the deadline can be granted if the student applies in writing to the Examinations Committee. Applications for an extension of deadlines must always be submitted to the Examinations Office together with proof of the reasons justifying the application.

Even if students are only required to resit examinations after the 8th subject semester, they must still submit an application for an extension. Students must also be sure to re-register (enroll).
