What are your recommendation letter requirements?

Modified on Wed, 10 Sep, 2025 at 4:00 PM

All Penn applicants are required to submit tworecommendations. We also allow students to submit 1optional supplemental letter if they desire.

\

One of the required recommendations must be from a school counselor or other school official. This should be the person supporting you in sending your application requirements from your school such as your transcript and the secondary school report (for first year applicants) or college report (transfer applicants).

\

The other required recommendation must be from a teacher. This letter should come from a teacher in a core subject area, such as math, science, history, English, or foreign language. For transfer applicants, we would like to receive a letter from a college instructor you've had most recently while in college.

\

You can review additional guidance on our Letters of Recommendation page.
