Summer Institute

H. J. Haskins Research Grant

Africana Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study devoted to the critical and systematic examination of the cultural, political, social, economic and historical experiences of peoples of the African Diaspora.

The Center for Africana Studies is engaged in the study, teaching and research about of African, African American and other African Diaspora peoples through our Summer Institute for Pre-First Year Students.

The Center for Africana Studies Summer Institute provides pre-first year students with a rigorous introduction to academic and co-curricular life at the University while introducing them to the discipline of Africana Studies.

The Center also administers an annual student prize competition which provides undergraduates the opportunity to showcase their research and writing on a variety of topics in the discipline of Africana Studies.
