Youth in Marginalized Settings in Lebanon: Lebanese Poverty Pockets, Palestinian Camps, and Syrian Gatherings

The AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) and the Lebanese Association for Educational Studies (LAES) partnered on a project titled “Youth in Marginalized Settings in Lebanon: Lebanese Poverty Pockets, Palestinian Camps, and Syrian Gatherings". The project outputs included 6 publications, each preceded by a webinar. \
Each of the publications and its corresponding event dealt with one of the six aspects of youth life: Educational, professional, familial, social, identity, and future. These publications were based on the findings of a three-year study (2018-2021) conducted by LAES, which aimed to examine the interactions of youths with the conditions of social marginalization they live in. The fieldwork was conducted in the summer of 2019 on 144 focus groups in 38 marginalized zones in Lebanon, including Lebanese poverty pockets, Palestinian camps, and Syrian gatherings. 48 focus groups were conducted with each nationality, of which 24 were exclusively males and 24 exclusively females. The 1,173 participants in these focus groups were young men and women between the age of 15 and 25. 22 questions were put forward to each group. \
The outputs of this project, as well as the webinars, are in Arabic. The publications include an abstract in English. \
