During my master's studies in biomedical engineering at AUB, the URB award shaped my academic path. When I had a part of my research accepted at the 46th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society in Florida, USA, the URB funding made it possible for me to attend—a chance I wouldn't have had otherwise. This conference became the turning point for my future.Knowing I'd be in the U.S., I contacted several labs in advance, hoping to visit and connect with researchers in person. Among them was a renowned lab. Because I could meet them face-to-face, they could see my interest in their work, and I was able to present the high standard of research we conduct at AUB in front of professors, researchers and students. This connection led to a fully funded PhD offer from their program.Without the URB funding, I would have missed out on both the conference experience and the chance to meet future colleagues and mentors, an opportunity that changed the direction of my career. "

... This experience was profoundly beneficial to my research and professional development. At the conference, I gained valuable insights into the latest advancements in the pharmacotherapy of obesity. I was particularly fascinated by the discussions on the use of Artificial Intelligence in clustering obesity, which highlighted innovative approaches to categorize and manage the condition more effectively. One of the standout aspects of the conference was its focus on changing the scientific paradigm through network medicine. The session on artificial intelligence and metabolic diseases demonstrated how a network approach to obesity and Type 2 Diabetes could revolutionize our understanding and treatment of these conditions. I had also the privilege of presenting my thesis project 3 times to a vast and diverse international audience. This opportunity provided me with invaluable exposure and feedback. Moreover, I had the invaluable opportunity to network with EASO Early Career Network (ECN).
