About the Department of Applied Science
The Department of Applied Science was established on 1 April 2009, formerly known as the Foundation Studies Department (FSD). On 2 February 2009, UTP’s Management Committee approved the proposal to upgrade FSD to the Fundamental and Applied Sciences Department (FASD). Effective 1 May 2025, it has been renamed to the Department of Applied Science (DAS), accelerating UTP’s move toward becoming a research university.

Department Support
The department supports Engineering and Computing departments by offering key Mathematics courses, supervising Engineering Team Projects, Final Year Projects, and Postgraduate studies.
All department members are affiliated with at least one Research Institute. Many serve as Principal Investigators with secured internal or external research funding.
