Department Chair's Foreword
Welcome to the Department of Applied Science at UTP!

The Department of Applied Science (DAS) was established on 1 April 2009, evolving from the former Foundation Studies Department (FSD). The proposal to upgrade FSD to FASD was approved by the UTP Management Committee on 2 February 2009. This transition plays a key role in supporting UTP's ambition to become a leading research university and achieve global prominence.\

DAS is part of the Faculty of Science, Management & Computing. Our department currently comprises 26 academic staff members with expertise in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.\
Effective 1 May 2025, it has been renamed to the Department of Applied Science (DAS), accelerating UTP’s move toward becoming a research university.\

In addition to our own programmes, DAS supports Engineering departments by offering undergraduate Mathematics courses. Our lecturers also supervise Engineering Team Projects, Final Year Projects, and Postgraduate research across various disciplines.
