RESEARCH ON SUSTAINABILITY

\

Sustainability needs to be pursued in an increased urgency and to act in an amalgamated manner. We are faced with multi-dimensional challenges of climate change, diminishing resources, environmental degradation, and the growing demand for energy.

At UTP, we believe that continuous advancements through research, innovations, technologies, and knowledge dissemination are imperative for a dignified livelihood and well-being towards a sustainable future.

With sustainability in mind, our research, innovation and technologies development take into consideration in addressing the complex and dynamic challenges in situations of insufficient resources. We strive for advancements in technologies with the aim towards zero waste and zero carbon, the production of affordable clean energy and clean water for all.\ \

UTP’s research and innovation are driven by three (3) institutes with six (6) research themes:\ Renewable Energy & Decarbonisation, Subsurface Resources, Sustainable Living,\ Infrastructure Excellence, Intelligent Analytics; and Digital Frontier

Smart Communities

Energy Sustainability\

Featured Research Institutes and CoEs\

Institute of Self-Sustainable Building (ISB) aspires to be a globally recognized institute for sustainable living solutions. The institute conducts research, innovations, and commercialization in Smart Green Building, focusing on green & clean technologies in energy and consumption, sustainable materials, zero waste production, and community well-being.\ \

Centre of Urban Resource Sustainability (CUReS)\

The Center of urban resource sustainability (CUReS) has a broad range of expertise in offering sustainable planning solutions, design, and managing resources in an urban setting. It has developed high-performance additives for cement composites and developing durable and sustainable roads and highway infrastructure. Another expertise profile focuses on providing a green solution for treating and managing the household and industrial wastewater and moving towards zero discharge solutions. A group of experts is involved in managing and extending water resources and protecting coastlines using innovative techniques. .\ \ Click here to learn more about CUReS

Center of Research in Ionic Liquids (CORIL)\

CORIL focuses on green initiatives and is geared towards sustainable techniques using ionic liquids. Our research comprises fundamental studies and their application in fuel upgrading, biomass, CO2 capture, and green processes using ionic liquids. We are also looking at ionic liquids' toxicology and have built a library database for this purpose. We aspire to become a Centre of Excellence (COE) that houses all activities related to ionic liquids.\
