### **Introduction**

Geoscience plays a vital role in understanding Earth processes, managing natural resources and supporting the energy transition and sustainability. It underpins key industries such as energy, mining, construction, and environmental management. The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Geoscience at UTP prepares graduates with strong foundations in geology and geophysics, combined with modern, data-driven applications. The programme equips students for diverse careers in the evolving energy and resource sectors.\
 \
In the early years, students undertaking this programme will study core subjects including geology, geophysics, earth processes, geochemistry, and engineering mathematics, before progressing to areas such as energy geoscience, strategic minerals, geospatial and remote sensing, and earth resources management. Hands-on learning is emphasised through fieldwork, industrial training, and industry-based projects. In the final year, students complete a capstone team project and a research-based Final Year Project, with options to specialise in selected areas of interest, which are:\
 \

- Petroleum Geoscience
- Basin Studies

\
The programme embeds a Minor in Data Science within its curriculum, exposing students to applied statistics, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, data science and machine learning for modern geoscience analysis.

1. Geoscientists who possess proficiency and possess the ability to become leaders in Geoscience and related industries.
2. Geoscientists who are dedicated to fostering sustainable development in Geoscience and related industries for societal betterment.

## Programme Outcomes

At the end of the programme, the graduates should be able to:\
\

1. Describe advanced and comprehensive, theoretical and technical knowledge in Geosciences.\
2. Demonstrate intellectual independence in complex application of geoscientific knowledge by applying critical, analytical and evaluation proficiencies in respective fields.
3. Apply a range of essential methods and procedures to solve a broad range of complex problems in Geosciences.
4. Work in diverse communities and communicate geoscience information concisely using written, visual and verbal means appropriate to the situation.
5. Communicate effectively on complex geoscience activities with the geoscience's community and with society at large.
6. Adapt a wide range of suitable digital technologies and appropriate software to enhance study, research and/or work/practice.
7. Apply mathematical and other quantitative, qualitative tools to analyse and evaluate numerical and graphical data in Geoscience.
8. Work autonomously and demonstrate leadership and professionalism in managing responsibilities within broad organizational parameters.
9. Demonstrate business acumen in geosciences and other related matters.
10. Commit to professional and ethical principles, responsibilities and norms of geoscience practice.\
