Overview

Born and raised in the Metro-Atlanta area, Deja is a PhD student in Africana Studies at Cornell University. She graduated from Spelman College with a B.A. in English in 2022. Her research interests are rooted in the Black literary imagination, with a focus on elements such as magic realism and Afrofuturism, as well as portrayals of horror in literature.

She is particularly interested in Black women writers’ relationship to theories of time, futurity, and utopia in their literary works. Her methodological interests include close readings, comparative analyses, and Black feminist criticism.
