## Ph.D. Student in Africana Studies

### Overview

Sofia Meadows-Muriel is a first year Ph.D. student from Boston, MA. They have a dual degree in African-American Studies (B.A) and Social Thought and Political Economy (B.S) from UMass Amherst's Commonwealth Honors College. Her research explores the impacts of the Black Power movement and Pan-Africanist thought, following the rise of Puerto Rican leftist organizations in the 1970s-80s. They are particularly interested in the role of public history and community based archival practices to document black Puerto Rican movement makers and collectives.
